Societies require balance, all relationships require balance and every single one of us individual people requires balance in order to be healthy and flourishing. There must be give and take, there must be dark and light, there must be ups and downs, there must be hot and cold, there must be masculine and there must be feminine. Consent is the bedrock of all BDSM. It must always be the bedrock. Consent is the difference between an interaction being loving, heartening and healing or it being toxic and traumatic. Consent isn't just established at one particular point, it can be withdrawn at any point of any interaction. Everyone must always be doing what they want to be doing because they knowingly decided to do that activity or have that interaction. All of the experiences that ever made me grow happened outside of my comfort zone. Excitement and fear are part of the same continuum, and our lives would be completely boring and mundane if we never left our comfort zones. However, taking anyone out of their comfort zone only ever happens if they are knowingly consenting to be in that space.
